Baltimore hotels: Budget vacays near battle monuments

Thursday, April 21st, 2011

By Vince Font

There are plenty of things to see and do in Baltimore, and about as many places to stay while you’re at it — Baltimore hotels aren’t exactly what anyone would call few and far between — but there are perhaps no sites as historically significant as Battle Monument, a 39-foot marble statue that stands in remembrance of the Battle of Baltimore. If you’re not up on your history, this was one of the deciding battles in the War of 1812 that inspired Francis Scott Key to write a little poem called “The Star-Spangled Banner” which would eventually become the national anthem. Atlantic City Hilton: Budget glam on the Boardwalk

Thursday, April 7th, 2011

Gamble and feast in glamour at Atlantic City Hilton, a surprisingly affordable hotel right on the Boardwalk.

By Vince Font

Few people hear the name Hilton and think “cheap,” but the fact is, the Atlantic City Hilton is one of the highest-rated cheap Atlantic City hotels on the boardwalk. By day, the hotel stands like a pristine megalith with a black glass window façade. By night, its well-lit exterior shines like a beacon that wouldn’t look out of place if you were to transplant it to the heart of downtown Las Vegas. All glamorous outward appearances aside, it’s what’s inside the AC Hilton that really sets it apart. (more…)

(1) 6-Night Southern Caribbean: While many Caribbean cruises focus on the Eastern and Western portions, the Southern Caribbean has gorgeous islands with lots of historic charm. On this trip, you’ll stop first in sleepy St. Croix; take a scenic horseback ride or an exciting scuba dive. Then, beach it up in St. John’s, Antigua, before checking out the drive-up volcano (yes, you read that right) on St. Lucia. End your trip by exploring the amazing plant and animal life at the Nature Reserve on St. Kitts.

Disney hopes to inspire one million volunteer vacations in 2010

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

Starting January 1, giving back to your community can help you go on a Disney vacation. Disney Parks recently announced they’re working with Hands On Network to help inspire one million people to volunteer in their communities through the “Give a Day, Get a Disney Day” promotion.donald-duck

In return for working with one of the non-profit groups selected by Hands On Network, volunteers will receive a free one-day pass to a Walt Disney World Resort or Disneyland Resort theme park. What better way to get a Disney vacation than by doing a volunteer vacation? Sure, you don’t have to complete your volunteer work during a vacation to earn the free admission pass, but wouldn’t giving up your own free time to help others in need make that vacation feel that much more worth it?

Hands On Network program participants will be revealed on Jan. 1 through DisneyParks.com or DisneyParks.ca (for Canadian residents) and volunteers can choose what non-profit organization they’d like to work with. With more than 70,000 non-profit agencies in the network, finding one that meshes with your interests should be easy. (more…)

For travelers thinking about taking a cheap cruise, now is the time. CheapTickets is offering hundreds of cheap cruises on your favorite cruise lines like Royal Caribbean, Carnival Cruise Lines, Disney Cruise Line and Norwegian Cruise Lines. If you’ve never set sail, you might have some questions. Let CheapTickets answer some of the most commonly asked questions:Cheap Cruise

What does my cruise fare include?
In most cases, your cruise fare will include your room, meals in the buffet restaurants and main dining room, most entertainment, and 24-hour room service. It does not include discretionary items such as specialty restaurants, organized shore excursions, alcoholic beverages, gratuities, spa treatments, medical services, casino expenditures, or other miscellaneous items.

What type of clothes should I pack for my cruise?
Consider your cruise itinerary when deciding what to pack. For tropical cruises, you’ll want to take shorts, skirts or sundresses, pants, t-shirts, knit tops, one formal outfit and a bathing suit.  For cooler days or Alaska cruises pack warmer clothes such as sweaters, raincoats, and fleece. It is also a good idea to bring a pair of sneakers or rubber-soled shoes for deck sports. For international cruises, keep in mind that some shore excursions to shrines or religious sites require a more conservative dress code. (more…)
