Bald Head Island, NC is an escape to tranquility and ocean breezes.  There are no cars just golf carts and bikes.  The island is at the mouth of the Cape Fear River and is steeped in naval history, including the Revolutionary War, Civil War and sunken ships.  Golf, tennis and beach walks are popular activities.  The more active set will enjoy fishing, stand up paddling (SUP) and even kite surfing.  In addition, it is a favorite destination for sea turtles to lay eggs.

Bald Head Island is accessible by a ferry from Southport, N.C., a short drive from Wilmington.

Beachcombing Barbados is a family affair at Almond Beach Village - All-Inclusive.

By Valerie Moloney

To those who have survived a transatlantic flight with a screaming toddler or had to change a diaper in a 4-inch wide airplane bathroom, I commend your plight. Like other parents who travel regularly with their children, I know the highwater you’ve swam just for those precious days on a Caribbean beach.

The good news is, there are plenty of all-inclusive vacations for parents looking for couple time, even if you have to take the kids. Stick with a resort with a decent kids club to keep the tykes entertained and active while you two try something new: say, a couples massage in a beachside palapa. Or maybe just start with a glass of wine. (more…)

Cheap and chic, The Inn at East Beach brings modest rates and modern style to Santa Barbara travelers.

By Vince Font
California’s great to visit year round, even in winter. Although some of the locals in the northern parts of the state may warn you away with tales of temperatures that plummet to near 30 in the middle of the night, some of you flying in from colder climes may find that outright balmy. In addition, contrary to popular belief there are plenty of cheap California hotels that give you the opportunity to take in the sights without having to worry about filing Chapter 7 on your return back home. Here are three of the best, starting south and heading north. (more…)
