The post-Disneyland fun continues from the rooftop pool at Carousel Inn -- literally across the maingate.

By Valerie Moloney

Whether in a crowded restaurant waiting area or standing in line at the Teacups, we’ve all been witness to a child about to have a meltdown. Cue shrills of frustration in all octaves, and ones you never knew existed.Cue kicking and screaming, and my personal favorite: the throwing of objects, from sippy cups to Dad’s new sunglasses.

The child needs a nap – pronto.

In Disneyland and its sister California Adventure, parents can find relief in knowing that three cheap California hotels are within walking distance of the theme parks. And when we say close, we mean across-the-maingate close on South Harbor Boulevard. Because if you’re going to plan your vacation in the Happiest Place on Earth, you better be prepared for when your little mousketeer isn’t so happy.

Carousel Inn and Suites
The family won’t even break a sweat while walking to Disneyland and California Adventure Park. It’s across the street from both attractions. Sporting a free continental breakfast, Quizno’s restaurant on site and tasteful rooms, it’s perfectly situated for an afternoon siesta or dip in the rooftop pool, which is spoiled with views of the nightly Disneyland fireworks.

Anaheim Camelot Inn and Suites
From the exterior, Carousel’s next-door neighbor plays up the medieval kitsch, complete with awnings, flower boxes and Juliette balconies. Kids will love the indoor arcade and gazebo, another prime spot to take in the flickering lights. Parents embrace the budget rates and unbeatable location – ideal for resting in between theme parks.

If Jr. can’t survive without his daily nap and Mom and Dad can’t live without their daily java fixes, then they should all consider a stay at this mid-range upscale resort just a few blocks from Disneyland. Spacious rooms dressed in framed Disney prints plus a Seattle’s Best Coffee assure that the clan will be rested for a day aboard the Pirates of Caribbean or the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage. Should the excursion need to be cut short, return to the hotel for a dip in the pool or a cheesy (and more affordable option than inside park grounds) slice from Pizza Hut. There, crisis averted.
