Ditch the cold for an easy family getaway to San Diego

Swap the winter chill for an ocean breeze at San Diego's Bahia Resort Hotel.

By Vince Font

The winter season is a great time to find deals on family vacations. Why not take a break from the snow shoveling and icy breezes to take your family to one of the most temperate cities on Earth: San Diego? It’s not impossible to find cheap San Diego hotels that venture into upscale territory while keeping the whole family happy.

1. Bahia Resort Hotel
For typically less than $100 per night (a price that rivals that of most dirt cheap hotels in San Diego), your stay at this beautiful and secluded resort will put you right on the shore of Mission Bay. If you’re planning more than an overnight stay, you’ll find the kitchenette and complimentary cookware a bonus. Sea World and the San Diego Zoo are both nearby, both great ways to spend the day if you’re traveling with family—or even if you’re not.

2. Embassy Suites San Diego Bay (Downtown)
With a location as great as this, the fact that you can walk to just about every worthwhile attraction in downtown San Diego makes the extra few dollars you’ll spend per night here worth it. Even sections of the city that aren’t within quick walking distance, like the Old Town district, can be accessed by car or short cab ride.

3. Hotel del Coronado
This charming, world famous hotel will scare away any winter blues you may be harboring. Renowned as one of America’s most beautiful hotels, the Hotel del Coronado offers plenty of reasons to make it your next family vacation destination. Let your kids check out the special events just for them while you take advantage of the on-site spa and salon.

Look for discounts on San Diego vacation packages. Book your flight, hotel and car together, and you’ll see even greater vacation savings.
