California’s great to visit year round, even in winter. Although some of the locals in the northern parts of the state may warn you away with tales of temperatures that plummet to near 30 in the middle of the night, some of you flying in from colder climes may find that outright balmy. In addition, contrary to popular belief there are plenty of cheap California hotels that give you the opportunity to take in the sights without having to worry about filing Chapter 7 on your return back home. When planning last-minute vacations, it may seem like there would be limitations on the destinations available. Unlike the clearance racks at your local shopping mall that only offer what no one really wants, the online travel world actually offers some pretty enticing last-minute travel deals. In fact, many of the places found during a recent search revealed that the most popular places are all on offer. This is because these favorite vacation spots are often prepared for high volume. Essentially, when there are too many seats or rooms available, they become prime last-minute destinations. As a mother of two — and any parent can attest — I know from experience that theme park tickets are the first of many expenses during an Orlando vacation. Once past the the turnstile, all sorts of temptations await (like revolving light sticks topped with Disney fairies, for example) to set your family’s budget back. As an avid traveler, I’m willing to go to any lengths to find those elusive travel deals — even if it means sacrificing sleep. Lately, I’ve been Googling one phrase on my laptop: cheap Cancun hotels. Granted, it’s a phrase that has always stirred mixed feelings for me. On one hand, it’s a luxury destination for those with a lot more butter on their bread than me. On the other, it’s raises fuzzy memories of past college spring break vacations. Ambivalence aside, my hunt produced one true diamond in the rough: Barcelo Costa Cancun All Inclusive Resort, which had an amazing nightly rate. While I thought I might be in a dream, I knew I couldn’t pass up such a great deal on a cheap Caribbean vacation.

If you’re like me, you don’t have relatives living near the most exciting vacation destinations in the world. The good news is I may have found the perfect vacation — an all inclusive vacation. My experience at the Holiday Inn SunSpree Resort Montego Bay All Inclusive is what did it for me; now I finally believe in the elusive cheap Caribbean vacation that always seemed too good to be true. In fact, when I suggested a three-night getaway to the SunSpree, my wife gave me her trademark “Are you kidding me?” look. That look disappeared when I delivered the details on the asking price; At 60 percent off, we weren’t going to let our very own cheap Caribbean vacation slip away. We didn’t wait a second — we pounced.
