Credit: RickC. By Jennifer Nielsen Love classic cars, sock hops and rock ‘n roll? If so, don’t miss out on Reno’s biggest event of the year, Hot August Nights. Hands down the coolest way to check out classic cars from the 50’s and 60’s, this year’s festivities will take place from July 30 to August 8. The events will kick off from South Lake Tahoe, the first time since its start in 1986. There’s a variety of events to choose from, including concerts, classic car parades, auctions and swap meets. Though some of the events require tickets (be sure to book ahead of time), many of them are free. Be sure to pack your sunscreen and sunglasses — it isn’t called “Hot August Nights” just because of the hot rods. Beat the heat Can’t take the heat? Luckily there’s plenty of casinos where you can play a little craps, blackjack, poker or just relax at the sports book Lounge to escape the scorching temperatures. Much like Las Vegas, the party never ends in Reno where the nightlife is nonstop. You can also check out the many restaurants at the casinos or along the strip.
