The Golden Boy had yummy seafood (scallops), but a little expensive. Theres Uno's, Fridays, Olive Graden, Outback Steakhouse closeby. There are so many places to eat up and down the street.
--Mel and 5, RI Aug 13, 2009
There's a train diner 2 minutes down the road (we GPSed it and saw it on the way in, pamphlet in the lobby), hyannis isn't far and there's plenty to do there (go right 2nd exit on the rotary), and there are beaches pretty close as well. Plenty to do, plenty to see. If you want good cheap sweatshirts, go to Cuffy's. Cheap kites? Christmas Tree Shop (we got a huge 7 ft. one for 7$ made of nylon) and Krista K's and Candy Co. have good candy/fudge. Mermaid Taffy stand is great taffy. Arnold's (in Eastham, father away) is a great place to eat. So is the Olive Garden in Hyannis and Ann and Fran's little diner. All this stuff can be found by leaving the hotel and going right.

Trip to Cape Cod
Mel and 5 Aug 13, 2009
The hotel was in an excellent location. It was near everything we planned to do. Pirate Cove, Zooquarium, Ocean street docks ... where we took a ride on the Sea Gypsy, Shops, Beaches, bank, restaurants, super markets, liquor store, etc..The staff really helped out alot with directions and where to dine out. Pool was nice and clean. There is an indoor and outdoor pool. Very fun. Breakfast wasn't too great: cereal, bread, butter, cinnamon bun. They have a great jacuzzi and sauna room. You can feed the ducks depending on what type of room you get. Lower rooms toward the back of hotel have a little view of pond where you can see ducks, coyotes, birds, swans. All in all, was great for what we needed. Functional for those who dont plan to be in room all day long.

Awesome hotel!
Serenity M. Jun 21, 2009
It was a very good stay. Check in and check out were painless, the staff was friendly, and we had no obnoxious neighbors. The ... pool was nice and the hot tub was too, I found the place very clean and well maintained. We went for a 4 day honeymoon and I wish I could've stayed longer. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom shower heads are adjustable, so you dont have to worry about getting blasted when you have a sunburn. We got a room overlooking the bay and it was awesome to see the tide come in. Your right on a main road, Route 28, so just going up and down it there's tons to do. my only complaint would be that when my husband went to look in the coffee pot, there was some old coffee in it. But I don't think the maids job is to check it. She always put a new pack of coffee in our room. There were no other problems I can think of. Continental breakfast was ok, personally I didn't bother with it. Amenities were good, but there could've been a few more (like room service, conditioner AS WELL AS shampoo, or cleaning the coffee pots). The pool should be open later (it closes at 9).

Well, I've stayed in worse
Knot Traveling There Again Jun 17, 2009
Was there for business. Staff was polite and helpful, but (1) beds were NOT the most comfortable boards I've ever slept on, ... (2) The live entertainment (Cockroach dances nightly) was in teresting but unnecessary, (3) the mildewed smell from the bureau drawers was intense and penetrating... (4) I know that it can be boring in a motel room and that sometimes ripping a phonebook in half is a viable time waster, but it WOULD be nice if, once ripped, it were replaced. Plenty of ice, though.

The Howard Johnson was ok if you on a budget. The staff was borderline non existant. They do not offer an early check out but ... you have to return the room keys or you will be charged. I had to leave a 7am but the office does not open till 8am.

this was the first time we stayed at this hotel. we feel that the hotel is being properly maintained and cleaned. the bed ... covers and the linens appeared to be cleaned and does not have a musty or moldy smell. the presence of a refirgerator in the bedroom was very good and the tv has some cable channels and the location of the hotel is also very good. one of our complaints was the people that were renting the room exactly above our room were very noisy.another one is, the pillows need to be more plumpier, they were flat and thin as a board.

HJI - not so good
Kimberlee Aug 22, 2007
HJI, was one of the most uncomfortable hotels i have ever stayed in. i hate to give a bad review, but the room i stayed was ... awful. The bed was extremely uncomfortable and the room smelled. Though the Hotel amenities (in/outdoor pools) looked great, i did not have a chance to swim in them. The people were extremely nice and i feel bad about having the write such bad things about the hotel room. But I wouldnt recommend it.

A Bland Hotel
pete Jul 28, 2007
The Howard Johnson Inn in West Yarmouth did not live up to our expectations for the money paid. The room decor was ... bland, matresses and pillows soft and hotel staff at check-in were not customer-friendly. The room was not adequately set-up with the proper amount of towels and the lighting in the room was just average. The location of the hotel is hidden by a hill on Rt. 28 and the signage is not large. In addition, there were no other signs in the area to this facility. Interior pool and hot tub water quality was lacking...murky...

Never, Never again!
Joan Apr 22, 2007
I had indicated that I would be arriving and checking in very late however, the door was locked and after standing in the ... cold wind and darkness at 1:30AM for 10 minutes my knocking and bell ringing finally awakened the young man available to check me in. When I opened the door to the room I was hit with a wall of mold and mildew odor. The heater/AC unit did not work so I was unable to circulate the air to clean it up or dry it out. The TV did not work. The linens on the bed were damp, my hand was actually wet after touching the bedspread! I telephoned the front desk to ask for another room or some assistance but there was no answer, only a recording indicating what the hours of operation were and an 800 # to call for reservations. By this time I was tired from a long ride, and so frustrated ( and a bit frightened to be alone in the dark in an unfamiliar place)I left and drove to a lighted doughnut shop parking lot and slept in my car.
