ONCE WE FIGURED OUT WHERE WE WERE WE TOOK THE NIGHT LIGHT TOUR ON ARRIVAL NIGHT, PLANE WAS LATE SO WE HAD TO HUSSLE TO GET TO ... THE TOUR. HAD TO TAKE A TAXI AND LOSE ONE PREPAID SHUTTLE RIDE, THEY WERE SURLY AND COULD NOT ASSURE OUR GETTING TO SITE. RECOMMEND TAXI RATHER THAN SHUTTLE, FASTER AND NO STOPS AND SOMETIMES A DRIVER PERSPECTIVE TOUR DEPENDING ON DRIVER. HOTEL GREAT LOCATION, COFFEE BEST ACROSS STREET. WALKABLE DISTANCE TO UPTOWN, TAKE 7TH RATHER THAN 8TH, CLEANER AND MORE TO SEE. NOT FAR. UPTOWN CENTRAL STATION JUST WONDERFUL , LIGHTS, SOUNDS, LIFE, SAFE!!!. NOT WHAT I EXPECTED, SAFE AT ALL TIMES.

Used the hotel for only sleeping. Room and the bed were small; but it was very close to most of the places you want to see in ... NY (Empire State, Times Square, Macy's for shoppers). Easy access to subway. How to get to the hotel from JFK: From your terminal at JFK take the Airtrain to the Jamaica station. It is easy to find the Airtrain at the airport and there will be very clear signs and probably people to help you make sure you get the train heading in the right direction. It costs $5. From Jamaica you will be able to get the E train into Manhattan. It will be the train heading to the World Trade Center station. You can take the E train directly to the Times Square station which will leave you at 42nd Street and 8th Avenue.

It is the perfect location to stay in NYC. It's about 2 blocks away from Penn Station which was great because we took Amtrak. ... The subway is also located in the same station as Amtrak so it makes it easy to get to other parts of NYC quickly. Macy's is a few blocks away. The Tick Tock Diner has great breakfast, and they are really quick. The have the softest bed, best hotel bed I ever slept on. The only problem I had was with the ticket desk in the lobby; the lady there was extremely rude and didn't even help us get the tickets we wanted. I highly recommend not using their services. Other than that everything was great and I would stay there again.

great location, but we had a big problem

Terri Sep 20, 2009

We enjoyed the great location and thought the room was fine until we noticed that our snacks had been gotten in to by a ... rodent. Needless to say we were out of that room in seconds. They moved us from the 27th to the 37th floor and the manager told me that he had never heard of anyone haveing prolems with rodents on the upper floors. Needless to say this still didn't calm my fears. It was our last night in new York at 11pm when we found out about our problem or I would have probably tried to get a flight out then. the night manager was very aplogetic but the day manager wasn't very sympathtetic. He offered to reimburse us for 50% of one night stay. We were not happy with this and then got a lot of grief about how this is difficult because we booked through a third party. I don't know why it shouuld be such a hassle as they got paid for our stay! we finally settled on the hotel paying for our transportaton to the airport($85) and a lunch in the nearby diner. The compensation of course did nothing to make me feel better about the experience. I would have recommeded the hotel to friends but of course I can't now in good faith. I would appreciate hearing back from you and the hotel if you can comment on an issue like this.

As tourists we also took the grey line tour - 48 hours to hop off and on. The tour guides were very good at filling us in on some of the special nuances of the sites we were passing. We hit areas all over so that we could get off and walk around, then catch the tour bus back to where we needed to go. A great alternative to taxi's and trying to figure out the subway system.

Recreation/Attractions hint, Short Walk

Go to the Rockerfellar centre as its less time to queue than the Empire State and you then get views of the Empire State.

Entertainment hint, Short Walk

For tourist like we were. We walked to time square just a few short minutes away and we bought tickets for the double decker Grayline tours it was $49 dollars and we were able to use the bus services for the next 3 days. It left you in N.Y. main attractions like statue of liberty, Canal street for shopping. During the four days we were there we only used that bus. And never had to get the train, bus or taxi.

Shopping hint, Short Walk

There is a Duane Reade kitty corner to the hotel on the far corner of 34th St. Stock up on water and snacks there. They also have an ATM there.

Dining hint, Short Walk

Johns Pizzaria on 44th is a place we eat every time we visit the city! The Tick Tock Diner on the corner of the hotel was great. Open 24hours. Great food. And a window booth made people watching possible. Good value for NYC. They have closed the streets to traffic in Times Square and have seating areas. You can buy food and eat it there at cafe tables. Its wonderful and very entertaining.

Shopping hint, Short Drive

For a lot of gifts and NY souvenirs, take a 10-minute subway ride for $4.00 roundtrip to Canal Street and negotiate on everything from t-shirts to knockoff designer bags and perfumes. Thousand of venders all wanting your money and willing to sell to you for "what you want to pay." If they cannot make the sell, the last question is, "what do you want to pay" at that point tell them something ridiculously low and walk off with your merchandise. And ladies, you have to visit Macy's! It's nothing like the one in your hometown&every floor specializes in something. The first floor is only perfume and makeup, and my favorite, the 5th floor is just shoes! As soon as I got off the escalator, I'm sure I heard music.
